A Wiki provides people with the ability to directly contribute to the content of it pages and to discuss and add to the contributions of others.

The genealogical database deals largely with the facts and figures, most of which are a matter of public record.  The Wiki allows anyone and all of us to tell the stories of the lives behind the statistics and the times that they lived in.  This collective memory could easily fade.
